MindMovers App - Redefining Executive Function Improvement

Project Overview: The MindMovers project represented an exciting collaboration between Koronis BioTech, Reflection Sciences, and Valtira. Our mission was to design a React Native app for students, aimed at enhancing their executive function – the mental skills encompassing memory, flexible thinking, and self-control. These skills are crucial for learning and development, especially in young children.

Background: Koronis BioTech and Reflection Sciences, in partnership with Stanford University, have conducted executive function assessments on over 100,000 children. These assessments are scientifically backed and critical in identifying areas where students can improve their cognitive skills.

Challenge: The previous application used for these assessments was outdated and failed to engage children effectively. Our goal was to overhaul this experience, making it not only educational but also enjoyable for the young users.

Solution:

The new MindMovers app was developed using React Native, providing a flexible, cross-platform solution. The app allows students to use their assessment data to engage in over 20 tailored activities and games designed to improve executive function. The design of the app was a crucial aspect – it needed to be bright, fun, and intuitive to hold children’s attention and encourage regular use.

In addition to the app, our team revamped the existing web-based React.js assessment application and the data dashboard. This facelift modernized the user interface, aligning it with the new app’s vibrant aesthetic.

A key aspect of this project was the use of MidJourney to establish an illustration standard. This standard brought a fresh, consistent look to the avatar assets and in-app guidance, elevating the overall user experience.

Outcome

The MindMovers app is set to launch in June 2024. It stands as a testament to collaborative innovation and user-centric design. Not only does it promise a more engaging experience for children, but it also sets a new standard for educational tools aimed at cognitive development.

Looking Forward

This project showcases the potential of combining advanced technology, scientific research, and thoughtful design to create impactful educational tools. As MindMovers prepares to make its mark, we anticipate it will be a significant step forward in the realm of educational technology, particularly in enhancing executive function in young learners.
