Brandon Johnson - Work for Target

Introduction

In my three years with Target, I took on a variety of roles that tested and expanded my UX design capabilities. These projects weren't just about delivering designs; they were about understanding user needs and business objectives, and then executing solutions that hit those targets effectively and on time.

Cartwheel for Target

I was part of the 50-person team behind Cartwheel, an app that changed how people used their phones for shopping at Target. This project was a practical lesson in adapting technology to real-world retail environments.

My Contributions:

  • Maintained consistent Target branding across Android, iOS, and desktop platforms.

  • Created user-friendly design assets tailored for each platform.

  • Worked closely with the UX team to refine and improve app functionality.

  • Managed and executed weekly social media campaigns on Facebook and Twitter.

  • Developed email campaigns and templates for regular communication.

  • Produced and tested multiple design iterations quickly for optimal results.

Affiliate Banners

Concurrently with Cartwheel, I managed the affiliate banner ad program. This required creating visually consistent banners under tight deadlines, matching the style and tone of various affiliate partners.

Target Flagship App and Brands Concept

Beyond these projects, I advised on UX/UI improvements for Target's main mobile app. I went beyond mere suggestions; I built a functional prototype to give the team a concrete example of my proposed improvements, demonstrating how they could enhance user experience and app functionality. I also did some concepts on a Target Brands site focused on in-store brands.
